Zaf makes history with European presidency appointment

Congratulations to Mr Zaf Naqui, who has been elected the next President of Federation of European Societies for the Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) 2026–29.

The Federation is responsible for training and standards of hand surgery across 29 nations in Europe and it’s the first time a surgeon from the UK has been appointed to this role in the organisation’s history.

During his term of office Zaf will focus on harmonising standards, structured education and stronger collaboration, while promoting the society’s voice globally.

He’s been clinical director for trauma, orthopaedic and plastic surgery at NCA since 2019, having started work at Salford Royal in 2010, and is also an honorary senior clinical lecturer at The University of Manchester. Zaf said: “It’s a real privilege to represent Northern Care Alliance and the UK on a European stage. This role reflects NCA’s commitment to clinical excellence, education and innovation and I’m proud to take that spirit forward as we work to raise standards and strengthen collaboration across hand surgery in Europe.”
